The Greatest Story Ever Told About
The Greatest Man That Ever Lived
                                                                 CHAPTER 14

Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who
had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.  And I heard a sound from heaven like
the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists
playing their harps.  And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures
and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.
These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the
Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God
and the Lamb.  No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

I believe that these 144,000 are the same 144,000 that were sealed in Chapter 7.  Even though we are
not specifically told this, the descriptions are much the same.  If they are not the same 144,000 then
we have another 144,000 somewhere not accounted for as there is no further mention of them other
than here and then a new 144,000 would have been selected which doesn’t really make sense.  They
are raptured from the earth as soon as the devil sets up his kingdom.  However, the two witnesses
are still on earth until the end.

Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on
the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people.  He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him
glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the
sea and the springs of water.”   A second angel followed and said, “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,
which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”  A third angel followed them
and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their
forehead or on their hand, they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full
strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy
angels and of the Lamb.  And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest
day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its
name.”  This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and
remain faithful to Jesus.  Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who
die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will
follow them.”

Immediately after the devil sets up his kingdom on earth God in his mercy sends 3 angels to fly over
the entire earth to warn the people.  The first angel tells them to worship God, the second angel tells
them that Babylon has fallen, and the third angel warns them against worshiping the beast and it’s
image or taking the mark.   That warning is so strict that God tells them clearly the consequences of
doing so: they will spend eternity in the lake of burning sulphur if they worship the beast or take the
mark.  In Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus describes when he will return to earth at the end of the Tribulation
and assemble all the nations before him.  He will separate the sheep from the goats.   The sheep will
go into the eternal kingdom, and the goats will go to eternal punishment.  This is the only place in the
Bible where anyone is told they will go to eternal punishment.  All other scriptures say that
unbelievers will perish which means to exist no more or be destroyed.   They will not go to eternal
punishment.  So why are these people told that they will go to eternal punishment?  I believe it’s
because they are the ones who took the mark because this occurs when Jesus returns after the
Tribulation.  There must be some reason why those that take the mark will not be forgiven even if
they repent later.   Their fate will be sealed as soon as they take the mark, they will spend eternity in
the lake of fire.  This is why God warns them very sternly, but they obviously ignored his warning.
There must be some reason which we will learn when the time comes as to how the mark will affect
their DNA or genes or something else in them.  It could not be for disobedience because God is
merciful, there must be a major reason why they cannot enter heaven even if they repent.  But God
knows what it is and that’s why he warns them.

I believe that Babylon is the name that refers to the devils kingdom that he will set up on earth
through the beast.  This is why the second angel tells the people that Babylon has fallen.  In other
words, this kingdom will not last, don’t be part of it, it has no future or authority.  This goes along with
the message of the other two angels as well.  And this is confirmed in Chapter 11 where it was spoken
that “the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ”.  This is where
Jesus is officially given his rulership of heaven and earth.   So obviously, he is now the ruler of the
earth, not the devil anymore, the devil just tries to convince the world that he has the power and
authority which he doesn’t.   According to heaven, Jesus is ruler over heaven and earth, not the devil
or Babylon.  We also see a word of comfort for those Christians that are alive at this time.  You may be
killed for your faith, but don’t worry you will be blessed.

I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man
with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand.  Then another angel came out of the
temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap,
because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.”  So he who was seated on the
cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.   Another angel came out of the
temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.  Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came
from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, “Take your sharp sickle and
gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.”  The angel swung his
sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.  They
were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as
high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 180 miles.”

I see this as possibly being an overview of the entire Tribulation.  It happens in heaven, and when the
angel “harvests the earth” if this were to be taken literally, he would kill all the inhabitants of the
earth.  So it must represent something else because the Tribulation does not end here and if it was
just the unbelievers that were harvested then there would be no need for the rest of the Tribulation
either.  I really don’t know what this represents and again, it does not interfere with the rest of the
judgments or timelines so I will leave it at that.
