The Greatest Story Ever Told About
The Greatest Man That Ever Lived
                                                               CHAPTER 20

And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a
great chain.  He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a
thousand years.  He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from
deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for
a short time.

After defeating the kings of the earth and their armies, and throwing the beast and the false prophet
into the lake of fire, the devil is captured, bound with chains, and thrown into the Abyss where he will
stay for one thousand years.

I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls
of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of
God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or
their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.  (The rest of the dead did not
come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection.  Blessed and holy are
those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be
priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

The Christians that died in the Tribulation are then resurrected and given eternal life just like the rest
of the resurrected/raptured Christians were.  The scripture “this is the first resurrection” actually
means  “This completes the first resurrection”.  This is Not the first resurrection, there have been
other resurrections during the Tribulation so this one could not have been the first.  But it is the last
because now that Jesus has arrived and killed all of the kings and the earth’s armies, he resurrects
the rest of the believers who were killed and they are the last ones to be resurrected. I also believe
that this is where Jesus separates the sheep from the goats as we read in Matthew Chapter 25.  There
is no mention in Revelations of there being any Christians that are still alive when Jesus comes just
in Matthew.   All the resurrected and raptured saints now have eternal life and cannot die anymore.
They will live forever.

When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the
nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they
are like the sand on the seashore.  They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the
camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.  And the
devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false
prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

After the thousand years Satan will have still not learned his lesson and he will again gather an army
against God.  The population of earth after 1000 years is very large as we see by the reference to "In
number they are like the sand on the seashore."  But they are quickly destroyed by fire and the
devil is thrown into the lake of burning sulphur.  The reason the devil and the beasts will be
tormented for ever and ever is because they cannot die.  They are eternal beings so they cannot be
killed.  Therefore, this is the kind of punishment they will endure.  This is what Jesus meant when he
said Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
Hell was not created for mankind because unbelievers will perish and believers will receive eternal
life.  But because angelic beings already have eternal life, they cannot perish, so they will spend
eternity in the lake of fire.  This is why I also believe that the first beast and the second beast (the
false prophet) are not men.   This scripture says that they are cast into the lake of fire where they will
be tormented for ever and ever.  If they were men, they would perish like all other men they would
not be tormented for ever and ever.  At this point they have already been in the lake of fire for 1000
years and then the devil is thrown in to join them there.

Another point to consider is that in Chapter 13 three times we are told that the beast had a fatal
wound that was healed.  Once it states that the fatal wound was from a sword.  "Fatal" wounds do not
heal, they result in death.   But because the beast is an eternal being that cannot die, the fatal wound
does not produce death.  Is this one of the reasons why the whole world marvels after the beast and
considers him to be a highly superior godlike creature?

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his
presence, and there was no place for them.  And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the
throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were
judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.  The sea gave up the dead that were
in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according
to what they had done.  Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the
second death.  Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake
of fire.

This is the judgment of all the unbelievers who have ever died.  They get to have their day in court
and are judged according to what they had done.  To make sure that there is no mistake, a search in
the book of life is made and if their name is not there, they are thrown into the lake of fire where they
will perish.  When a person is born again, their name is written in the book of life.  This is what Jesus
told his disciples in Luke 10:20  "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to
you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven."  The second death is exactly that.  A
second death.  We all die once, this is the second death where all unbelievers perish.   Those who are
born again are not affected by the second death because they have been given eternal life.  As
believers sleep until the resurrection after they die, so unbelievers sleep until this day when they are
all judged at once.
